The Youth Group at St. James, led by Katie Canton, is comprised of young people from 6th through 12thgrade who meet each Sunday at 10 am and join the congregation in the sanctuary in time for communion. The youth regroup following the service to reflect and, occasionally, to prepare for events happening later that day.
On the first Sunday of the month the youth attend the full Community Sunday service at 10 am and sit together as a group to deepen their experience of spiritual practices at St. James. Young people in youth ministry also find meaningful encounters with the world around them, as on the second Sunday of the month when they help prepare and serve a meal to the homeless at St. Martin de Porres. Our youth (and sometimes their families) all really enjoy this service project.
Throughout the year our youth plan and participate in many other events – large and small, service-oriented or just for fun. But the heart of their experience in the St. James Youth Group is the friendships and relationships they build with each other and the mutual support they provide each other in times of need. Above all, the group gives them a safe space where they can be themselves.
